About me
After a decade as an officer in the United States Navy, Matt transitioned into education, earning a master’s degree in Education from Harvard University before beginning his teaching career in the International Department of Beijing National Day School (北京十一学校), a 5,000-student institution occupying forty acres in the heart of the Chinese capital. His subsequent career has encompassed English and History at independent boarding and day schools in the United States, alongside work supporting Asia-focused admissions initiatives. His educational experience spans the IB, AP, A-Level, Common Core, and Chinese National Curriculum frameworks. He has served as an IB examiner, chairs NEASC accreditation visits, and has presented at numerous national, regional, and international conferences. His forthcoming article, “Beyond Co-Teaching: Toward a Theory of Co-Accountability in Collaborative Instructional Systems,” will appear in The Leaflet, the publication of the New England Association of Teachers of English. He also serves as an instructor in teacher preparation, teaching portions of EastConn’s M.Ed. English Teacher Methods course. His teaching has been recognized by the New England Association of Teachers of English, the National Council of Teachers of English, and, on two occasions, by the University of Chicago. Matt is currently pursuing a Master of Liberal Arts degree at the University of Chicago, with a concentration in Leadership & Ethics. A lifelong rower, Matt has spent a decade coaching in the United States and at Britannia Royal Naval College in Dartmouth, England, where he studied Defence Policy and Strategic Studies. After returning to public education in 2023, he now teaches English at the secondary level in Connecticut.
